What version of Java is required to run ScrumWorks Pro?

ScrumWorks Pro has two components that rely on Java: the ScrumWorks Pro Desktop Client and the ScrumWorks Pro Server.
Client Java Requirements:
- All platforms: the Java 1.5 or 1.6 runtime (JRE) is required.
Server Java Requirements: The ScrumWorks Pro Server requires Java version 1.5. Java 1.6 is not yet supported.
- Windows Servers: the ScrumWorks Pro installer bundles a copy of the 1.5 Java runtime. No extra installation is required.
- Mac Servers: requires Java 1.5 installed. Note, the Mac installer will check to ensure that the intended server has Java 1.5 installed.
- Linux Servers: requires installation of Java 1.5. Note, the Linux installer will check to ensure that the intended server has Java 1.5 installed.

We found that if you have Java 1.6 revision 14 that you would have problems with the installation/upgrade of the Client. Users with revision 13 were fine, and those that upgraded to java 1.6 revision 15 or revision 16 would work. Otherwise, the Client would not install. This was after our upgrade to 4.0, but it also happened in a previous upgrade of 3.x. At that time we had to downgrade java to revision 13, since 15 was not available yet. This was a problem in java, I heard. (An Official Rep may want to clarify or elaborate on this experience).

Thanks for pointing this out Fandresen. We are still in the process of moving information from our old forum to this community page. The Java 6 update 14 issue was not a popular thing for our support department while it was occurring. There was an announcement about this problem, and one that occurred on OSX machines around the same time, the following would be the pertinent bit from that post:
----------------------------------
There is a known bug in Java 6 update 14 (build 1.6.0_14-b08), that causes the ScrumWorks Pro Desktop Client to fail to start properly. Upgrading to Java 6, update 15 will resolve this issue. For more information on the bug, please see the Sun Developer Network Site: http://bugs.sun.com/view_bug.do?bug_i...
Additionally, there is a known issue with Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4, which was made available on June 15th 2009, that affects ScrumWorks Pro Desktop Client operation. To resolve this issue, upgrade your ScrumWorks Pro server to release 3.3.2 or above.

I see that there have been a few versions of Java 6 since this question was answered. I'm installing Scrumworks now and would love to avoid installing an old version of Java if possible. I have Java 6 update 22... is the current version of Scrumworks likely to work? (I'm installing on Linux.)

Hi arcturus,
Update 14 is the only version of Java 6 that has ever had issues. Update 22 should work just fine, I haven't heard of any issues with it. -
