Please let me know if I can backup 1.8.3 on a w2k3 32bit, migrate the backup to a new 64bit server, install on top the latest SW pro (+10 free licenses).
I got the ideea in a previous topic:
http://community.danube.com/danube/to...
but I could not locate the backup instructions mentioned there...
Thanks,
FM

Yes, you can certainly upgrade and migrate the data.
The easiest way would be to upgrade the copy you have now where it is, and then move the data to a fresh install of 5.1 at the new location.
1. Back up your existing database, and delete all but 10 users from your copy of 1.8.3.
2. Download the 32 bit Hypersonic version of Scrumworks Pro 5.1. This is very important as you cannot upgrade from 1.8.3 directly to the MySQL version. If you want to use MySQL you will need to do that after the upgrade is complete.
3. Shut down the Scrumworks server service, and then run the upgrade installer. It is best if your server has unrestricted internet access during the installation.
After the installation is complete your copy of 1.8.3 should be replaced with a copy of 5.1 and your data and 10 users will have been carried across to the new version.
4. Install a Fresh empty copy of 5.1 64 bit Hypersonic on the new server.
5. Copy the Attachments folder (found in the main server folder) and the Scrumworks.script and Scrumworks.properties files (found in the server\data\hypersonic folder) and place them in their respective locations on the new server.
6. Fire up your new copy of Scrumworks, install your license, and verify your data. And you should be good to go.
A link to our full documentation on upgrading can be found here: http://www.danube.com/docs/scrumworks...
If after upgrading to 5.1 Hypersonic you wish to move to our MySQL version, instructions for this can be found here:

I upgraded 1.8.3 to 5.1,and I got: 'The ScrumWorks Pro license is invalid. The web client is disabled.
Please use the desktop client to install a license.'
Next, to use the desktop client, the previous administrator login gives an error - 'the scrumworks pro server is misconfigured.javax.naming' and your default administrator/password gives - unable to log in.
Now, because I cannot use the previous/new Scrumworks 1.8.3/ 5.1, can I install the new version on the new server and import files from old server? I did create a backup from 1.8.3; can I import this one in the 5.1?
Thanks -

The database has to be re-formatted by the upgrade process for the 1.8.3 database to be usable in 5.1.
The first thing I would suggest is that you try the upgrade from 1.8.3 a second time to make sure that the deployment worked correctly. If that then produces the same error again we would need to take a closer look at some of the logs generated by the update process. -

Do I need to uninstall 5.1 first? Also how do you handle the license: does it requires the new license to upgrade 1.8.3 to 5.1? can I use the same license to migrate to a new server/installation? in my case, I cannot apply the new license because I cannot login in the new desktop client.

Also, I can see the Scrumworks.script and Scrumworks.properties files (found in the server\data\hypersonic folder), but no Attachments folder..it is normal?
